John M. Leehey, ASLA, APA
DIRECTOR OF PLANNING
As Director of Planning at Danielian Associates, John Leehey, ASLA, APA, manages both national and international planning projects. His expertise in planned communities, urban design, landscape architecture and specific plan development enhances Danielian’s long history of physical land planning, development coordination and architectural services. His skills provide strong solutions to projects of all complexity, and he enjoys challenges and collaborations that continually provide substantial benefit to the client.
John has over 25 years experience working in the land development and design industry. His passion for community development has led him to many of the world’s most complex urban environments where he has worked on a wide diversity of projects, ranging in scale from suburban community planning to very high density urban development. He provides a modern and international urban perspective to his work, with a unique skill set that bridges the complexity of architecture, planning and landscape architecture to create the best possible plan and design. His international experience involves projects throughout many Middle Eastern countries, China, and Australia, where he has both lived and traveled to extensively on various periods of his career. At the same time, his domestic experience has included planning and management of numerous master planned communities throughout North America, most notably his long term project management of Ladera Ranch in Orange County California, winner of numerous awards and accolades.
John lives in Irvine California and enjoys spending free time with his wife Natalia and their three sons. He enjoys all sports, is a big Chargers and Clippers fan, and can be found playing golf whenever time allows. He is also a big blues and folk guitar player, backed up by a mean harmonica, rocking out in his garage studio with his sons and friends.
John holds a Masters Degree from Harvard University, a Bachelors from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, both in Landscape Architecture. He is a licensed Landscape Architect, and active in many industry organizations including ULI, APA, ASLA, and the BIA.
